Are Online games losing their touch?

Star Wars Galaxies was the first Online game i ever played. Stuck with it for 4 years now. Seen it all. But for nearly 2 1/2 years nothing new was added.

then suddendly they add a Star Destroyer themepark which had been under work since one of the first expansion packs.

Pirates of the Carribean Online. This is a new game but it is soooo simple of a game. The only instance in the game was a boss battle. But they had it disbled due (according to them) bugs in the boss battle.

today they finally add it.

I swear both games were about to go bankrupt from bored as hell players.

Are Online games losing their touch?
Star Wars Galaxies and PotCO are really two of the more boring online games if I do say so myself. Final Fantasy XI was still probably the most fun I ever had even if it wasted my life and killed my soul. World of Warcraft and Counterstrike are close. I'd never touch that Pirates trash based on what I've seen.
Reply:Interesting question.

I wouldn't say they're "Losing their Touch" more that.. there is so many out there, the pond is being diluted.

My online Games ATM are Guild Wars, and Runescape. Mainly because of playability.

When the games start getting old, you dont get as many updates for them, as the development teams are working on bigger n better games.

Its mainly cos the online RPG industry is really taking off in a big way because of WoW... you either play WoW or you look for another one to play. or both.. people are being converted from older games, to the newer ones, as such, less players, less money = less time to develop

Reply:Absolutely not, some long standing games tend to start treading water which eventually makes players lose favor but that's what separates the good games from bad games. It's also wise to remember that nothing is eternal, eventually even the best game is going to be replaced by something bigger and better. Playing 4 years of SWG is far more than most people would have tolerated given games like EVE Online, Guild Wars, Lineage II, World Of Warcraft, and many others all of which have consistently upgraded their content and gameplay.
